The Ordination of Elias Beitar as a Deacon

 

Patriarch John X celebrated the Divine Liturgy of Saint Mary of Egypt (the fifth Sunday of Lent) at the Mariamite Cathedral in Damascus, in the presence of the Greek ambassador to Damascus, Mr. Emmanuel Kakavilakis. He was assisted in the service by bishops: Nikolaos (Amathus from the Diocese of Limassol in Cyprus), Romanos (Al Hannat), Moussa (Khoury), John (Batash), and Arsenios (Dahdal), along with Archimandrite Isaac, Archimandrite Barnabas (from Cyprus), the head of the Monastery of Saint George Al-Homeyra, Archimandrite Gerasimos Kabbas, and several priests and deacons.

During the Divine Liturgy, Brother Elias Beitar was ordained as a deacon under the name Athanasius.

Also, during the service, the Charity Clinic Association in Damascus celebrated its annual feast, marking the important medical charitable work the association carries out to support its people.

After the liturgy, congratulations were extended to the newly ordained deacon and the members of the Charity Clinic Association in the church hall.
