His Eminence, the Most Reverend Metropolitan Ghattas (Hazim)

He was born in Mhardeh, Syria, in 1963. He earned in 1987 a Bachelor in Theology from the St. John of Damascus Institute of Theology. He was ordained a Deacon in the Archdiocese of Hama in 1989, and a priest in 1990. He was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite and appointed the Metropolitan of Hama's Vicar. He served as well as the Abbot of the Monastery of St. George in Mhardeh in 1999. During this time, he oversaw the Christian Education Department in the Archdiocese of Hama. In 1999, he was consecrated by the late Patriarch IGNATIUS IV as Bishop of Quarah. He moved to Damascus and was appointed Patriarchal Vicar. In 2010, he served as the Dean of the St. John of Damascus Institute of Theology and the Abbot of the Our Lady of Balamand Patriarchal Monastery till his election as Metropolitan of Baghdad, Kuwait and dependencies in 2014
