The Nativity and the Good News
The Nativity and the Good News:
Let us say first that Christ’s Nativity was not an unexpected surprise. It came as the completion of the Old Testament, the fulfillment of the prophet’s messages.
This divine economy of salvation prepared by God before the world was made plainly makes its first entrance at the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary by Archangel Gabriel. Here was the beginning of the New Testament.
It is a divine declaration, the good news of victory: “Today is the fountainhead of our salvation and the manifestation of the mystery which was from eternity. The Son of God becomes the Virgin’s Son and Gabriel announces the good tidings of grace; for this cause, let us cry to the Mother of God with him: Rejoice, you who are full of grace; the Lord is with you.”.
-This message reveals the Old Testament prophecies:
The prophecies concerning man’s salvation begin from the first pages of the Old Testament, even since Creation.
Here is revealed the divine economy for salvation planned before the ages.
The Lord said to the Serpent: “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel” (Gn 3:15).
These words spoken after the fall of man prophesy that Christ, who will be born from the woman, will bruise Satan’s head. In Greek, it is called “protevangelismos” Πρωτοευαγγελισμός, the first annunciation.
